The Journey Begins

Our journey began on Thursday, Novemeber 12, 2009 when our precious Maddy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Earlier in the week, Maddy had been complaining of pain in her leg and was running a low grade fever. On Tuesday, Russ took Maddy to see our family doctor who did an X-Ray and ordered some blood work. The results of the blood work came back with some peculiar findings, and we were quickly referred to St. Vincent Mercy Children's Hospital in Toledo.

Thank God for Dr. Row for ordering the blood tests so quickly. We were told by Dr. Kitchen, the oncologist, that they see many patients who have been going back and forth to the doctor's office for weeks before blood work is done.

We arrived at St. Vincent's at 1:00 on Thursday. By Friday evening, the diagnosis of ALL was confirmed, Maddy had surgery to insert a port, and she had received her first round of chemo and steroids. While Russ and I just wanted to stop time, we were thankful that the doctors and nurses moved quickly to get Maddy on the road to recovery. It is going to be a long road, but we are grateful to all the friends and family who have already stepped up to support us through this journey.

  1. Such a great idea to start a blog page for Maddy! That way everyone can keep updated and we'll all receive important info from you guys to let us know very specifically how to pray! Things are running smoothly today at AES! Mr. D and Mr. P were both around this morning checking to make sure everything is in line. Hang in there Maddy! You will be at home soon! Love you lots!

  6. Dear Dorothy & Russ,
Received the news about Maddy on Saturday. My first thoughts were back to when we first met the girls and Maddy and I made quick friends. I think we ended up in the new dollhouse that day. Connie and I will be praying for Maddy and your whole family. Trust in Him--He will get you through this.

  13. Dear Maddy,
I am praying for you and your family many, many times a day! School was good today! We saved you some things. Morning Meeting was funny --- the boys were arguing about who was the best, the Steelers or the Browns or the Buckeyes. I told them the Bluestreaks were the best!!! We are getting a new camera all set up so you can see us and we can see you! The kids can't wait until you get home! We have a 'Maddy Box' here at school and we are putting cards and other things in the box just for you! WE LOVE YOU! See you soon! --Love, Miss Heckel

I hope today was an encouraging day! Please know that I am praying for you many, many times a day! Remember you are NOT on this journey alone! Your families, he school kids, the staff, the area church, and the whole community have you on their minds and in their hearts. Take one day one hour and at times one moment at a time!
It seemed so strange here at school today without Mrs. Lambert and without Maddy! We miss you! But we all had a good day at AES. Mr. Pressler will help Tim Meister keep us on the right path. :)
If there is anything at all I can do please just ask!
Talk to you soon! Love, Cindy

  26. Hi Maddy! so glad to hear that you are home with your family and all your stuffed animals and stuff. I got my homework folder done so I have been up in my room playing with my pet salamander "Charlie" I can push my finger right into his mouth and he doesn't even bite me. I hope we can get the special computer set up soon at school so I can see you and feel like you are back in class. I miss you and feel sad when I see your desk without you in it. Be brave and keep praying...God won't give you more than you can handle.

  27. Dear Lambert Family,

Our hearts broke when we heard of Madison's illness . . . but we are confident . . . the Lord, our Comforter and Great Physician, will carry you through this valley. (Valleys fill first!) Please know not an hour passes that our thoughts are not with Madison and your whole family. We will continue to lift up prayers for you all as well as for all those involved in her treatment.

Last week, we saw a news story on a boy from Fremont (?) who is using Skype to keep involved with his school during his treatment. How cool is that?! Hopefully, Mags will be able to share a few moments with her. She thinks and speaks so foundly of her. ;o)

    Love, prayers, and blessings . . .
