Bald Is Back!

Maddy had her weekly treatment today. We were at the hospital for 7 hours. All went well though except Maddy's hair started falling out in clumps today, so on the way home, we stopped and got another hair cut. We went short last weekend, but it was not short enough to prevent hair from getting everywhere. Thanks to the ladies at Salon Bliss for helping us out through this transition. As you can see in the pictures, it is amazing how things can change in a few short weeks.

We also found out today that Julia is not a transplant match for Maddy. This means we will have some major decisions to make over the next couple of months. For certain types of relapses, there is a lot of data on what treatment option (transplant vs. chemo) has the best overall outcome. However, for Maddy's type of relapse, (Isolated Central Nervous System within the first 15 months), there is no clear cut answers when there is not a sibling ("related") match. We have an appointment in March at the University of Michigan to talk to the transplant doctors and review all of our options since we would be looking at finding an "unrelated" donor if we go the transplant route. I am sure we will then do a lot of talking with Maddy's doctors and try to figure out what our next step will be once we get through these first three months.

  1. Maddy, bald is beautiful, especially on you!! I hope that you do not feel too sick tonight or over the next couple of days.

How was the drive this morning, did your mom manage to stay on the road the WHOLE time. I have heard about her driving sometimes.

Also, since you cannot go outside to play in the snow (if we get all of the snow they say we will get tonight), I think it is only appropriate that your mom and dad stand outside as Julia throws snowballs at them so you can watch and laugh! Good idea!!??

    Thinking and praying for you!

  2. Good job today Maddy! Sounds like a long day for you and mom though. Your little head is just as cute as the last time. I may have to rub it next time I see you if you will let me! I will be looking for you on skype to say hi soon! Be good and hope mom and dad make you some really good food this weekend! You will have to come up with some good ideas of what to have them make!

    Take care!
    Love you,
    Mrs. Buehrer

  3. Hi to ALL the Lamberts,

Maddy, I agree with Mrs. Buehrer. You are the cutest little baldy I know. I promise I will not rub your head unless you give me permission. I am so proud of you! You are brave and strong. It sounds like we probably will have another snow day tomorrow! Do you like homemade chicken noodle soup? I'm making some tomorrow IF we are canceled. I'll bring a big pot to all of you if you will eat it. I surely do not need a whole pot for myself.

I would love to skype with you sometime for a few minutes. I still have it on my computer.

Russ and Dorothy: I can't imagine all that is running around in your heads. Yes there are big, big decisions to be made. I know you will look at all the options and whatever you decide will the the RIGHT for all of you! Just remember that GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME! God is holding you in his hand every minute and He will not give you more than you can handle.

Julia, Maddy is so lucky to have you as a big sister. I can just tell she really looks up to you and she always will!

If there is anything that I can ever do to help you! Please ask.

    Love and Prayers,
    'Grandma' CindyLou :)

  4. Maddy,
You wear the most beautiful color blue and you look so good in it! It was so much fun getting to Skype with you and your Grandma in music as we sang songs about our country. Your classmates were very excited to see you as was I.
We are praying for you daily and know God is holding you and your family in His hands and close to his heart.
    Love
    Mrs. Hill

  6. Hi Miss Maddy! You look just as beautiful as ever. :-) We're praying for you every single day. And...for your mom, dad, and Julia too. We sure miss you at school! I bet you've enjoyed having your family home with you this week with all of this yucky weather.

Tyler wanted to tell you that we got two new goldfish. We named them Brutus and Lollipop. Aren't those funny names? They have a new home w/ our other fish: Swimmy, Mario, and Lucy. How's your puppy? I bet she's getting big!! We'll talk to you soon!

    Love, The Hursts
