Feeling Helpless

It is good to be home and Maddy is resting peacefully.  We want to thank everyone for your continued prayers.  It sometimes feels like this just can't really be happening.  To just watch and wait is the most difficult thing-  Moms and Dads are supposed to make everything better...

  1. Most folks can't imagine what it is like to be in your shoes; the order of things seems incorrect. I hope you have found a certain peace in being all home together as a family. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ". Jeremiah 29:11

  8. I know how difficult this is. I have watched many family's .....they watch....they wait....they don't want to leave the room.....they won't sleep....they won't eat....they won't go anywhere.....they don't want to let go. I do hope your hospice nurse is giving you comfort and including the hospice team. It is so unfair, and down right wrong. I have always believed that God knows the reasons for all that happens, but when it comes to children, I always wonder why!
Hold her hand, talk to her. Let her know you, her dad, and her sister, will be ok, and that you love her very much. This is the hardest part. I have seen parents break down in tears telling their child it is ok to go to Heaven. It just about rips the heart out of your chest.
As a hospice nurse, someone once asked me, how can you take care of a dying child? I had to think long and hard about that. My answer was, to watch a child suffer is worse than death, is the most horrible encounter a parent can go through, to watch a child pass, in the arms of those that love her, when her soul enters heaven...that is when the child is at peace...is whole....is healthy. And although she is gone from this earthly world, she will be in heaven where she has another family, her family, family of the past. Does this make it any easier? No. But, she will always be with you, you cannot take her life from your dear hearts. She will always be with you.

  10. I did not meant to imply that she does not want to be with her family. I know she does. Please forgive me, if that is how my post was taken. I was speaking as a hospice nurse, as a mom, and it was as simple as that. And I too believe in miracles.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior."

  13. Dorothy, you have made things better for Maddy for nine years. You helped make her life a powerful, beautiful, and precious one. You have made things better just by being her mom and dad. It was a job God entrusted ONLY to you and Russ for a reason. You are so lucky to have her and Julia.
    Love and hugs from Antwerp.

  20. Maddy knows that she has the best parents ever...along with you knowing she is the sweetest little 9 yr.old ever...you have helped mold her into who she is, and she must be very amazing because if she is like her momma...then I know she must be the sweetest, strongest, smartest, and most gentle little girl...and if she is like her daddy...then she must be sweet, caring and kind (and a little ornery)...I am sure she is a great mix of you two...so she must be PERFECT! Always know Maddy is enriching your lives and how much she is teaching you about yourselves, life and love...I love you! May peace surround you all...remember she is where all is good...with mom, dad, Julia and in her home...

  22. I love you Maddy and I love your family too! You are so sweet and so loved by so many people. Last evening at church Moriah Reichert said, "Maddy has touched more people's lives in 9 years than some people touch in 90 years." I am never, ever saying "Goodbye" but rather "See you later honey." I am praying constantly for comfort and peace that passes understanding.

  23. As parents our hearts ache for you both. I wish we had some magical words. You have shown so many the love, trust and faith you have in Jesus our Lord and Savior. Praying for peace and comfort for all of you. He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. Isaiah 40:11
Gods blessings to each of you.

  25. I know we are all filled with a suffocating sadness at the thought that Maddy might be leaving us. As humans we are selfish people: we simply want her here with us! But, we also know the beauty and wonderful awesomeness that waits for us on the other side with our heavenly Father...every day could feel like Christmas morning for our precious Maddy, no sickness, only pure joy. Behold, I make all things new.~Revelation 21:5

We continue to pray for a miracle! And God's will be done...may God grant you a peace that fills your entire being. You are always on our minds and in our prayers.

  37. Moms and Dads do make things better in ways that we may not always understand or realize. You have provided so much love, support, and prayer for Maddy through this journey, and now she is able to rest peacefully with her mom, dad, and big sister by her side. I'm sure she can feel you all comforting her, loving her, praying for her.

  41. Dorothy and Russ,
May peace surround you. God is there and holding your hand and hers. Chelsey had times where she didn't respond to anything, but later could. She told us that she could hear us talking to her, and that she had been in Heaven also. She had such comfort and awe of what she experienced. I know you're tired and weary and hurting...I pray for God to wrap his arms around you all, and let you feel he's got this. Strength to you my friends.

  42. Russ and Dorothy- We don't know why God has called you to walk this road or why Maddy has had to battle this terrible disease in her short life. But, we do know you are wonderful parents and have shown her God's everlasting love in difficult times when no human answers can be spoken. We can't imagine the sorrow you are going through on a daily basis, we continue to pray and ask God to extend his mercy in every way possible. We love you all and you have all become a part of our family's life whether you know that or not. We will continue to pray -

Having lost a little angel of my own, I can sympathize deeply. God will see you through if you only allow Him. I've found great comfort in knowing my Son is in a beautiful, pain-free, happy place with our dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

May God Bless and Keep you,
